Internship Program

WEF Fall 2022 and Spring 2023 Interns

“I was fortunate to be part of this wonderful organization and to be able to share my knowledge and given the opportunity to help kids with academic needs. This opportunity also gave me the knowledge on how I should work with people that I wouldn’t be able to fully understand because of a language barrier. This Internship gave me many different skills that I will be able to use later in my future. Being a part of this organization will shape my future as it gave me a wider perspective on how difficult the lives of others can be without support from organizations like Wegene Ethiopian Foundation.”

Yafet Alemayehou

“Being a tutor for Wegene this year has meant so much to me and has taught me more than I could have imagined. I’ve learned more about Ethiopia and the world in general through the interactions I’ve had with the children that Wegene supports. Wegene’s dedication to improving the conditions that Ethiopian families live in has inspired me to give back to my community even beyond my time in the internship. I can not recommend this program enough to those who want to see tangible change and improvement in Ethiopia.”

Nazrawi Belay

“My internship with Wegene has been amazing. I have been able to assist kids struggling with schoolwork and help them overcome challenges. This experience has allowed me to give back to my community by tutoring kids and helping them catch up with their classes.”

Leul Negussie

WEF Fall 2021 and Spring 2022 Interns

“My experience at Wegene was important to me because it gave me the opportunity to connect with other members of the Ethiopian community in order to give back to the less fortunate. It was impactful to see what goes into this organization in order for it to sponsor so many families and break the poverty cycle. This internship also gave me experience with researching and applying for grants which taught me skills that I can apply to other tasks.”

Eliana Bruck

“Working with Wegene this past year has been a very meaningful experience. I have seen firsthand the work that Wegene does to make a difference in the lives of Ethiopian families, especially with their focus on improving access to education and housing. I’m very grateful to have worked as intern, as I have been able to contribute to different Wegene initiatives and better connect with the Ethiopian community.”
